PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limit on several roadways in the region.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

[naviga:li] Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County;[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li] US 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties;[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li] US 222 in Lehigh and Berks counties;[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li]PA 309 in Lehigh County;[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li]US 209 in Monroe County;[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li]PA 33 in Monroe and Northampton counties[/naviga:li]

Turnpike extends speed restrictions due to worsening weather conditions

Due to worsening weather conditions and white-out conditions in central and western regions, the Pennsylvania Turnpike has lowered the speed limit on much of its system. Speeds are now reduced to 45 mph from the Donegal Interchange (exit 91) in Westmoreland County to the Delaware River Bridge (milepost 359) in Chester County, as well as on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) to the Lehigh Valley Interchange (exit 56) in Lehigh County.

Beltzville overcrowding study update postponed

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of State Parks has postponed its meeting today at Towamensing Fire Company. No new meeting date has been established.

Lehighton borough offices closed

Lehighton Borough Hall will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday due to the inclement weather. Borough Hall will reopen on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
