After winning the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer basketball league championship last week with three upset victories in five days, Vesuvio's continued its string of upsets in the 24th annual Catasauqua Tournament of Champions.
On Tuesday night, Vesuvio's defeated Pammer Chiropractic (the North Catasauqua summer basketball league champion) by a final score of 56-46. North Catasauqua was the defending Tournament Champion.With the win, Vesuvio's advances to tonight's semifinals against G & S Fastening (the Catasauqua summer basketball league regular season and playoff champion) at 7:15 p.m. at the Catasauqua Borough Playground. The other semifinal (6:30 p.m.) is Daku (Catasauqua) versus Roosevelt's (Stiles).It is only the second time in the 24-year history of the the Tournament that the ESRC/Tamaqua league champion has advanced into the semifinals.Vesuvio's won its opening round game against the Allentown Jewish Community Center Ted Glass League champion on Monday evening by a score of 57-41.The Catasauqua Tournament of Champions is a single elimination tournament featuring 14 of the best men's summer basketball league champions in the area.
