Armed robbery in Tamaqua

Tamaqua police are investigating an armed robbery that reportedly took place on Mauch Chunk Street on March 18.

Amritpal Singh, of 34 Mauch Chunk St., told officers he had left his place to walk to the Family Dollar Store on Railroad Street. As he walked Singh realized it was after 9 p.m. and the store would be closed. He turned around and walked back to his apartment. As he neared the former dry cleaning shop a male came around the side of the building and said, "Give me your money or I'll shoot."The victim did see a small handgun, but was unable to tell officers anymore than it was small and black. He handed over his wallet, which contained around $80 in cash and his international ID from India. The suspect then shoved the victim away and fled toward the rear of Schick's Cafe.The suspect was described as being about five feet nine inches tall, weighing 180-190 pounds, and wearing a black hoodie and black beanie hat.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call police at 570-668-6100.
