A Carbon County woman who smuggled a controlled substance into the prison in her dentures, will spend a long time there. She was one of several defendants sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II on Monday in the county court.

Jail incidentSusan Victoria Karley, 45, of Parryville, was sentenced ot serve one day less one year to one day less two years in the county prison on a charge of possessiosn of a controlled substance-contraband by an inmate. She previously entered a guilty plea to the charge.She was arrested on March 20, 2009, when corrections officers at the prison discovered the drug Trazadone hidden in her dentures.Nanovic also ordered her to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, imposed zero tolerance on D&A use, and supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.Karley will begin her jail term on May 20 at 6 p.m. She was given credit for 34 days spent in jail on the charge.Other casesOther defendants who were sentenced by Nanovic on charges they previously entered guilty pleas were:Robert Adam Miller, 48, of Bethlehem, was sentenced to serve one to two years in jail on a charge of receiving stolen property. He was arrested on Dec. 23, 2007, for an incident at the First Natnional Pharmacy in Lehighton. He was charged with taking numerous bottles of oxycodone.Nanovic also ordered him to get a D&A and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, and make restitution of $1,068.He begins the jail term on June 6 at 5 p.m. He was given credit for 14 days spent in jail on the charge.Richard K. Cadwallader, 31, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in jail on a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. He was arrested on Dec. 23, 2010, along South Avenue in Jim Thorpe. He refused to submit to a blood test.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and continue counseling sessions and mental health treatment. On summary counts of disorderly conduct, harassment and motor vehicle code violation he was fined a total of $1,100 and costs.He will serve 30 days straight in the county prison beginning May 28 at 9 a.m. and then the remaining 60 days on consecutive weekends. He was given credit for 13 days spent in jail on the charge.James Lee Dubois, 59, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in prison on a DUI charge. He was arrested on April 17, 2010, along Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police. Given a test, the result was .21BAC.Nanovic also ordered him to pay a fine of $750, get a D&A evaluation, license suspended for a year, and submit to weekly urine tests. On a summary motor vehicle code offense he was fined $25 and costs.He will serve two days in the county jail and the remaining 28 days in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring. He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 29.Each defendant must also pay all court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
