Woman deals with drugs next door

A Lehighton woman has spoken out against rampant drug use that occurs next door to her home.

Joann Keiser, who lives in a half-double home on the 100 block of Bridge Street, explained her situation to borough council on Monday.“I have a major drug problem next to me,” said Keiser, who explained that sometimes there are as many as 30 to 40 people a day who visit next door for drugs.“I’m sick of smelling this,” she said. “It smells like skunk pee in my house.”As a result, Keiser said she’s been to the hospital between six to eight times in the past two years. She said when her neighbors know she calls police, they vandalize her vehicle.Keiser said police are aware of the situation, as she’s brought the matter to their attention on several occasions.“I don’t know who to talk to anymore,” she said. “No one wants to listen to me anymore.”Keiser said she approached council because she didn’t know what else to do at this point.“I feel like I’m on drugs from the chemicals,” she said. “I’m ill from this; I’m ill from smelling this.”The neighbors shoot at her dog, and also shoot robins in her yard, Keiser said.“I think the place should be shut down,” she said.Borough police Chief Brian Biechy said the police department is “well aware” of Keiser’s situation.Keiser said she doesn’t believe she should have to move from her home because of the actions of her neighbors.“I’m getting ill over it. My dog’s getting ill over it,” she said. “I feel I shouldn’t have to leave.”Council President Grant Hunsicker assured Keiser that the police department will address the situation.Mayor Tom Mase voiced his support for the police department.“This isn’t a television show; you don’t solve a mystery in a half-hour,” Mase said. “I think personally they’re doing one good job.”
