Lehighton school board
Lehighton Area School District's board of directors approved several payments Monday night related to its ongoing construction projects.
Payments include $4,704 to JMSI Inc. for asbestos abatement at the middle school; $9,116.94 to Barry Isett and Associates, $3,637.50 to JMSI Inc. and $211,400.85 to CMG of Easton for work at the athletic stadium; $582 to Colonial Electric Supply, $1,294,328.40 to McClure Company, $92,119.28 to Jay R. Reynolds Inc. and $708,138.99 to Lobar Inc. for renovations to the middle school; $582 to Colonial Electric Supply, $1,177,531.70 to McClure Company, $16,755.75 to Jay R. Reynolds Inc., $1,201,448.88 to Lobar Inc. and $5,238 to JMSI Inc. for renovations to the high school; and $1,534.28 to the Lehighton Water Authority, $277.53 to Civitas Media, $379.74 to the Press Enterprise and $618.80 to the Times News regarding the proposed elementary center.In other votes Monday night, the board:• Approved the purchase of a 2017 Ford Escape from Hondru Ford through the COSTAR purchasing program at a maximum cost of $23,000. The vehicle will replace a 2005 Ford Focus in the district's fleet.• Approved an agreement with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit No. 21 to participate in Discovery Streaming Education Basic, which provides a streaming digital library in conjunction with Lehigh Valley PBS/WLVT Channel 39. The cost of the program is $1,046.76 for the 2016-17 school year.• Approved an agreement with the Lehigh Law Enforcement Officers Association for security at athletic events, school dances, graduation and homecoming events for 2016-17 at a $18 per hour per person rate as needed.• Hired Nicole Folberg, long-term substitute assigned to the middle school at $40,850; Tammy Westfall, school psychologist at $45,980; Melodie Eckhart, lunch aide at East Penn Elementary at $7.25 per hour; and Kristy Mertz, lunch aide at Franklin Elementary at $7.25 per hour.• Approved the first reading of policies on interscholastic athletics and alternative instruction.
