The regular monthly meeting of the auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on Aug. 13 with President Christa Kattner presiding.
General Orders 1 were read and filed for action.A joint District 20 meeting was held at Pocono Manor on Aug. 20.September is suicide awareness month. The theme for the Voice of Democracy competition is "American History: Our Hope for the Future." The Patriot's Pen theme is "America's Gift to My Generation." Information on both programs will be given to Panther Valley High School.A thank you was received from Ann Adams, along with an application for the Veterans Day Parade, which will be hosted by Nesquehoning on Nov. 5.Under veterans and family support, 70 cards were sent since the last meeting.The Hometown Heroes project, which is being done by the Nesquehoning Historical Society, VFW, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion and UVO, has been overwhelmed by the response. Applications for this year were closed as of the meeting date; all approved poles have been used. Applications will still be accepted for 2018, and will be done as more poles are approved.A paint and sip will be held in the social hall at 6:30 p.m. onSept. 22.District 20 will meet at 2 p.m. Sept. 17, hosted by Northampton. Department of Pennsylvania President Kelley Lepak will make her official visit at that session.Donations were made to the National Veterans Support Programs and the Veterans Day Parade ticket.Christa Kattner, Missy Hascher and Maureen Hirochek attended the Leadership Conference in Camp Hill on Aug. 11 to 13, and spoke on some of the programs and changes being instituted this year.A 9/11 memorial is being planned for 7 p.m. onSept. 11at the post home.The next meeting will be held at 1
p.m.Sept. 10. Members are encouraged to attend and reminded that 2018 dues are now payable.
