Sunday’s anticipated rainstorm had prompted Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade officials to reschedule the three-division event to Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 3 p.m. Lineup will begin at 2 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Area High School parking lot.

The 23rd annual parade will make its way down through the streets of the east side of the borough, sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club.

The Jim Thorpe Fire Department will be honored as the grand marshal of the parade.

Lions member James Trainer said, “We wish to honor the volunteer first responders, not only of Jim Thorpe but all of those in surrounding communities as well.”

The parade will begin at the high school and march down Center Street to Ninth Street, and proceed down Ninth Street to North Street, North Street to Fifth Street, Fifth Street to Center Street, and down Center Street, eventually ending at Third Street. The reviewing stand will be located at the Sargent building in the 600 block of North Street.

After the parade is over, buses will shuttle participants back to Memorial Park for refreshments and awards.

Awards will be presented for the best float, best group and most original, with first, second and third place awards in each category.

Division 1

(Form in driveway in front of high school) — Jim Thorpe Police Department/Jim Thorpe Community Watch/Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko, Jim Thorpe Fire Department (grand marshals), Jim Thorpe Lions Club, California Raisin vehicle, Carbon County Lions/Lioness Fair Queen, state Rep. Doyle Heffley and Jim Thorpe Area High School Band.

Division 2

(Form in first parking lot in front of high school) — Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank (“Knocking out the competition”), Shawn Kresge Services, Edith Lukasevich for borough council, Hawk Mountain Highlanders, Rajah Shrine Anglers, Girl Scout troops 30424 and 30425, Carbon GOP, Turn to Us (“Doctors and Nurses”), Carbon County Taxi, Cub Scout Pack 138 (“Hooked on Scouting”), Brandywine Transportation (“Hippie Bus”) and Mauch Chunk Motor Heads.

Division 3

The parade committee consists of chairman Jim Trainer, treasurer Debbie Trainer, Sandy Gallagher, Ronald Sheehan, William Reabold Jr., Jolene Evans, Ray Brader, Melissa Redline and Dr. Clem McGinley and Sophie McGinley.

Members of the Lions Club will be carrying donation buckets along the parade route. Club members said the club hopes to expand the parade greatly in the future and any donations received will be greatly appreciated.
