Polk Township addresses for the Monroe County re-addressing project will be mailed to Polk residents April 8, reported Secretary/Treasurer Nancy C. May. However, residents are urged by all three supervisors not to change their address right away as the township must buy signs after an ordinance for uniform signage is adopted. Residents have two years to make the change.

The re-addressing project is a culmination of six years of work, explained May, adding, "It's a necessary thing," even though the township administration knows some people are not happy with their possible change.If a person owns a property in another township, the owner must make certain the tenant complies with said address change, May stated.In conjunction with the re-addressing project, the supervisors will meet with the fire company board to discuss the fire company's possible involvement in the project, at 7 p.m., April 27.Various water problems in the township are being addressed and of the four damaged guide-rails, two are being settled insurance-wise. The names of those who damaged the other two have not, so far, been obtained. Residents' cooperation in these two situations would be appreciated.The board agreed to spend $3,874 per year for three years to do pipes and to consider an off-peak electric rates program.The board also agreed via resolution to do dot Grants online reporting related to liquid fuels and, by a second resolution, adopted the celebration of Local Government Week: April 11 through April15.That resolution recognizes the importance of "the need for strong, independent, and active local government in Pennsylvania and recognizes the valuable contribution made by residents serving their communities."Permits for the use of the solid waste transfer station are "really coming in," with over 600 permits of the yearly average of 1,500 already issued. The discount period goes to April 15, with the fee being $80 per permit thereafter.Property matters included approving the Keith Brown Plan (road dedication and contingencies update) for signing but holding it until the development plan is in hand.A profile for the sight distance for The Woods plan must be verified for that to proceed and the authorization to bid the installation at the Middle Creek culvert was authorized.A conditional use for Albanese will go to the Planning Commission April13 and to the supervisors April 25, with a public hearing at 6 p.m.A work session for the supervisors was announced for 8 a.m., April 7. It may include such items as the employee handbook, the proposed open burning and re-addressing ordinances, potential grant projects, oil and gas exploration and solar ordinances, and possible amendment to the yard sale ordinance.Ed Emery, president of the El-Do Lake property owners association, addressed the supervisors in regard to a possible blighted and abandoned home in the development and S.B. 900 and what that bill allows the township to do, including denying the property owner any other permits. A discussion of legal definitions and what is the responsibility of the property owners association versus possibly that of the township ensued.As Emery left, he asked the township for any help it could give in the situation.
