The president of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company announced that uranium has been discovered near Mauch Chunk and his firm will start mining it in spring. Robert V. White, head of the LCN, said the first mining operations will be carried out in a "very small way" to determine whether it would be economically feasible to expand operations. The mining operation will be on Route 209 between Mauch Chunk and Nesquehoning.
