Not playing games for a week due to the weather can affect teams in different ways.

Northern Lehigh's Sonya Josephson was bothered at all by the layoff.Josephson's first quarter outburst on Saturday against Blue Mountain not only put her above the 1,000-point plateau, but sparked her team to a 66-57 non-league win.Blue Mountain rolled into Slatington looking to make a statement. Two turnovers put the Lady Eagles up 6-2 early prompting a time out."We came out flat, we really did. We were making stupid turnovers. We weren't ready to play," Northern Lehigh head coach Dave Oertner said. "We have to thank Sonya, she was on fire in the first quarter."Josephson, needing 14 points to reach the milestone, popped a three-pointer give her team a little bit of life. With both teams racing up and down the court, the points piled up.Blue Mountain's Jillian Grapsy (15 points) hit a three-pointer and sank another basket to give Blue Mountain their final lead at 13-11.Josephson responded with two baskets and finished the quarter with a flurry. A basket under the boards and then a three pointer at the buzzer not only put the Lady Bulldogs up for good (22-17), but her 16-points in the first quarter gave her the highly coveted milestone in high school basketball."It's everyone's dream who plays high school basketball to reach 1,000 points," Josephson said. "but I definitely couldn't do it without my teammates.""That's just Sonya," Oertner said. "When she gets hot she will score in bunches."Shutting down Josephson in the second quarter came at a price for Blue Mountain. Switching to a box-and-one defense to stop the hot hand of the senior forward opened the doors for her teammates to score.Lauren Oertner's basket to start the second quarter extended the lead to seven. By the end of the second frame, Christina Bastardi's layup and Kristi Seiler's three-pointer pushed the lead to 41-31, leaving Blue Mountain in catch up mode for the rest of the game.The fast pace of Blue Mountain prompted the Northern Lehigh coach to slow it down a bit. That opened the door for Aimee Oertner to find her groove. After scoring her 1,000th last week, the senior leader showed why she is one of the area's best basketball players.Oertner scored 14 second half points as her team did not allow Blue Mountain (11-4) to pull close. Bastardi and Seiler combined again on back-to-back scores to give Northern Lehigh its largest lead 63-49 late in the game.Aimee Oertner had a game high 24 points while Josephson finished with 20. Shanelle Koch dropped in 22 to lead the Lady Eagles."The rest of the team kept scoring," Coach Oertner explained. "That's what we do, we take what the other team gives us."That is exactly what they need tonight as Northern Lehigh (13-1) travels to Center Valley for the Colonial League showdown with Southern Lehigh that was postponed from Friday."We needed to see that," Oertner said of Blue Mountains fast pace. "They were beating us up and down the court. That was a problem for us [all game] and it exposed a weakness we have to fix.
