The Carbon County Commissioners agreed unanimously that the change in designation of U.S. Route 309 to State Highway Route 29 will have an adverse economic effect upon Carbon County, and the three-man board went on record as strongly opposing the move. (Editor's note: Today the highway is Route 248 in Carbon County, Route 209 from Weissport to Nesquehoning, and Route 93 from Nesquehoning to Weatherly).
