As a person infatuated with statistics, the football season is always one of my favorites.

Every year, players and teams break school and area records some that have been around for just a few years and some that have lasted for ages.While the focus for coaches always remains winning games, even they get excited when one of their players or their squad eclipses a new mark.This season, some performances stood out more so than others.Obviously Northern Lehigh's Cody Remaley has garnered a tremendous amount of hoopla in setting records this season. Besides numerous school marks, he also became the Colonial League's all-time leader in rushing yards. His 30 touchdowns are also tied for the most in a season at Northern Lehigh (and he has at least one more game to play).But there were others who etched their names in the record books: Pleasant Valley's Derrik Walling rewrote the passing marks at his school while Lehighton's Josh Agosto added his name to the list of team marks.While records were made to be broken, one of the area's biggest problems is actually knowing what the records are. Some schools don't have a complete grasp on their history and are unsure of their team's top performances.Because of that, we here at the TIMES NEWS are also unsure when an area record is eclipsed.Despite that fact, I've decided to come up with my top 10 favorite records. While I use the term "record" loosely because of the above statement, all 10 figures are still impressive whether or not they are actually records. Before we get to the 10, I also included some honorable mentions that almost made the list.Honorable mentions: Justin Kashner (Pleasant Valley) eight field goals in a season (2000); Panther Valley overcomes 21-point deficit to win (Sept. 22, 1990 at West Hazleton); Brett Snyder (Northwestern) 33 touchdowns in season (1995); Jim Hope (Tamaqua) 331 yards rushing in game (Nov. 3, 1989 at Shenandoah); Ricky Cipko (Tamaqua) returns interception 102 yards for a touchdown (Oct. 5, 2001 vs. North Schuylkill); Northwestern-Catasauqua play four OTs (1997).10. Corey Cinicola's 47 pass attempts ... On Oct. 10, 2008 Jim Thorpe's left-handed quarterback probably went home after playing Pocono Mountain West and iced down his arm. Of the Olympians' 73 plays Cinicola threw the ball an amazing 47 times, completing 22 of them. While passing figures have steadily increased, the average attempts of TN teams this season was still only 13.8. Also of note, this year in 11 games Northern Lehigh has thrown 56 passes or just nine times more than Cinicola did in that one game.9. Cody Remaley's three straight 100-point seasons ... While many of Remaley's stats have been talked about, this one is not too well-known. In 2008, the Bulldog running back tallied 102 points as a sophomore. Last year as a junior, he reached 186 points. So far this season, the total is an even 200. For anyone to break this mark, a player would have to reach 100+ points in all four years of varisty eligibility. In the past 30 years, only eight other TN players have achieved two seasons of 100+ points.8. Tom Caamano's 43-yard field goal ... On Sept. 6, 1996 with his team leading Southern Lehigh 14-7 and the wind at their back, Northwestern head coach Bob Mitchell faced a fourth down at the Spartan 26-yard line. Instead of going for a first down the Tiger mentor decided to try for a long field goal. Caamano, also the team's quarterback, got enough leg on the ball to split the uprights from 43 yards away. In the last 20 years, Caamano is only one of four area players to hit from 40 yards with his being the longest.7. Lehighton and PM East combine for 103 points ... This past Oct. 1 the Indians and Cardinals hooked up in one of the most wild scoring contests. The 62-41 PM East victory marked the first time (that we could find) that an area team played in a game where the combined scoring was over 100 points. A total of 16 touchdowns were scored (or an average of one every three minutes) while 63 of the points came in the second half.6. Cazzie Kosciolek's 2,618 yards passing in season ... Still the benchmark for area quarterbacks, Panther Valley's Kosciolek completed 173-of-283 passes for 2,618 yards in 1992. Kosciolek was named All-State and TIMES Player of the Year for his outstanding season. In the past 25 years, only one other area QB (Palmerton's Brian Morgan) reached the 2,000-yard plateau and he finished over 500 yards behind the Panther signal-caller. Kosciolek played 13 games that season, averaging 201.4 yards per contest.5. Northern Lehigh's seven consecutive shutouts ... Many people remember that Northern Lehigh's football team in 2003 reached the state championship game. Not as many remember one of the most impressive defensive stretches in recent times. From Week 2 through Week 8 the Bulldogs didn't allow a point a stretch of seven straight games. In fact Nolehi outscored its opponents by an amazing 309-0 over those seven weeks. During the regular season, the Bulldogs allowed just 23 points three touchdowns and a field goal.4. Fenton Black's 1,179 yards receiving in season ... In 1992, Panther Valley quarterback Cazzie Kosciolek had a couple of receiving weapons in Brad Miller and Fenton Black. While Miller caught more passes, Black ended the season with a remarkable number of receiving yards. For a player to break Black's yardage total he would have to average nearly 100 yards receiving while playing 12 games.3. Joe Semanoff's 40 points in a game ... On Sept. 15, 2000 Lehighton won a wild 53-32 contest against Whitehall. In the game, the Indians' Joe Semanoff accounted for 40 of his team's points with six touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions. All six of his scores were on runs and he finished the contest with 315 yards rushing.2. Marian's 25-game winning streak ... The Colts lost their first game of the season in 1985 to Blue Mountain but then finished the year with 11 straight victories, including one over Freeland to claim the district title. With no state playoffs then, Marian didn't play again until the next season. In that year (1986) Stan Dakosty's club went a perfect 13-0 and won an Eastern Conference championship. The Colts won their opener in 1987 to push the streak to 25 before falling to North Schuylkill, 9-8, in Week 2.1. Cody Remaley's 49 carries in a game ... on Oct. 16, 2009 against Northwestern, Northern Lehigh ran 65 offensive plays with 49 of them being carries by Remaley. The Bulldog line dominated play and Remaley continually ran behind them. While he finished with 241 yards, only four of his carries went for more than seven yards. To put this mark in perspective, a player averaging 12 carries a quarter would still come up one shy of this amazing feat.
