Tamaqua District court

Preliminary hearing court for criminal cases was held Oct. 10 in the courtroom of District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, with all of the defendants choosing to waive their right to such hearings and move their cases directly to the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.

Defendants scheduled for hearings on drug-related cases included:

Julie Anne Smith

, 28, of 29 E. Hazard St., Summit Hill, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and disregarding a traffic lane. The charges were filed by Coaldale patrolman Charles Blesse in connection with an Oct. 30, 2015, case. Smith was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

Kevin D. Tansley

, 51, of 33 N. Railroad St., Tamaqua, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a Sept. 14 incident and were filed by Rush Township patrolman Ryan Oldt.

Tansley was released on $25,000 straight bail.

James A. Katona

, 52, of 29 Grove St., McAdoo, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without rear lights. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla after an Aug. 8 traffic stop.

Katona was released on his own recognizance.

William Hierro Morfa

, 21, of 829 W. Fourth St., Hazleton, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a July 31 incident and were filed by McAdoo patrolman Curilla.

Mora was released on his own recognizance.

Other cases

Shawn Roy Markle

, 51, of 1111 Jeansville Road, Hazle Township, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to keep right by McAdoo patrolman Curilla. The traffic stop was made on Aug. 3.

Markle was released on his own recognizance.

Daniel M. Waldron

, 35, whose last address was 121 N. First St., Lehighton, was in court to answer to charges in two cases of defiant trespass. On Aug. 18, he was cited for defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was charged with defiant trespass again on Aug. 26.

Waldren’s bail in both cases was reduced from monetary to recognizance on Oct. 10, but he has an additional trespassing charge from September he still must answer.

Zoey Bartenope

, 20, of 268 Lehigh Ave., Palmerton, was charged with retail theft for an incident on May 22. She was charged by Coaldale officer Todd Weiss.

Bartenope was released on her own recognizance.

Anthony Reed

, 20, of 79 River Road, Tamaqua, was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and retail theft by McAdoo patrolman Anthony DiVirgilio. The charges were filed after an April 24 theft.

Reed was released on his own recognizance.

Eric K. Kuklinski

, 31, of 427 Adams St., Freeland, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false identification to law enforcement. The charge were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Rick Bekesy in connection with an Aug. 7 incident.

Kuklinski was released on his own recognizance.

Nicole Bailey

, 40, of 38A Hunter St., Tamaqua, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without rear lights by McAdoo patrolman Curilla. One count of possession of marijuana, initially filed in the July 28 case, was withdrawn.

Bailey was released on her own recognizance.
