CCTI students create STEM logo
The Carbon Schuylkill Luzerne STEM Ecosystem just recently celebrated its first anniversary.
To commemorate it, the group asked students from Carbon Career & Technical Institute, West Side Career and Technology Center, Hazleton Career and Technical Center and Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, to design logos for the ecosystem.
Nine entries were received.
On Thursday, the group announced its winners for the new logo.
Through an outside panel of judges, two logos tied for top honors and will be decided on by the ecosystem at a later time.
The winning designs were submitted by students Libby Smith, Sharin Fischer and Audrey Rehnert, all of Carbon Career & Technical Institute.
Smith and Fischer designed a logo that married a plant ecosystem with STEM.
They chose a typeface to complement Lehigh Carbon Community College’s logo and chose primary colors to keep the design simple.
Rehnert said she first created 10 sketches and then chose her best design.
“I thought since STEM is based off ideas in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, I chose to make a light bulb and a beaker to represent science and a gear to represent engineering,” she said.
The three girls each received $100 gift certificate from Walmart and a $10 gift certificate for Subway.
