A domestic dispute in Tamaqua on Sunday resulted in jail time for a Tamaqua man.
Police were dispatched to 208 W. Spruce St. at 7:58 p.m. for a domestic assault in progress. At the home Patrolman Karl Harig spoke with a woman who was outside, who said her husband grabbed her by the throat, threw her to the ground and slammed her head against a tiled floor. The husband, Clovis Williams, 51, was inside the home.When Harig attempted to speak with the husband about the dispute he was challenged and then pushed by Williams. After a short scuffle, the officer managed to get handcuffs on Williams, who continually yelled obscenities and threats to Harig.Because of the scuffle, Williams was evaluated by EMS personnel, then insisted they take him to the hospital. He was admitted to St. Luke's Miners Hospital, Coaldale, for observation.Upon his release Monday morning, Williams was arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, on charges of aggravated assault against a police officer, resisting arrest, simple assault on his wife, reckless endangerment, making terroristic threats, harassment and criminal mischief.
