Northwestern picked up wins in both boys and girls soccer on Thursday, while Jim Thorpe earned victories in both girls volleyball and girls soccer.
BOYS SOCCER
No. Lehigh-Catasauqua
Catasauqua broke open a halftime tie with five goals in the second half to defeat Northern Lehigh 6-1 in a Colonial League game.
Joe Merkel scored four goals for the Rough Riders, while Derek Troxell and Luis DelRosario each added individual scores. Jaxon Berrier assisted on three of his team’s scores.
Northern Lehigh’s Chuck Wilk scored off a feed from Josh Sellars.
Notre Dame-Northwestern
Northwestern shut out Notre Dame 3-0 in Colonial League action.
Tiger goals were scored by Ryan Baker, Ben Vecelio and Grant Andreus, with assists going to Baker and Jeff Garcia.
Palisades-Palmerton
Palisades edged Palmerton 1-0 in a Colonial League game.
The Pirates’ Seth Ford scored the game’s only goal off an assist by Samuel Glazer.
Palisades goal keeper Steven Yannett made five saves in the shut out. Palmerton goalie Nic Singleton stopped 10 shots.
GIRLS SOCCER
Palmerton-Palisades
Palisades upended Palmerton in Colonial League play, 2-0.
Catasauqua-No. Lehigh
Catasauqua downed Northern Lehigh 2-1 in Colonial League action.
Brielle Davies and Hailey Toto both notched goals for the Rough Riders.
Shaina Mazzocca scored for the Bulldogs.
The winners’ Madison Hicks and NL’s Erica Detweiler both made eight saves in goal.
Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
After a scoreless tie at the break, Jim Thorpe recorded a pair of goals in the second to take a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over Blue Mountain.
Nikki Ivan and Lydia Wallace scored a goal apiece for the Olympians (6-5-1), while Mackenzie Yuhas assisted on one.
Kate Bos stopped 11 shots in goal for the winners, who defeated Blue Mountain for the first time in program history.
Northwestern-Notre Dame
Sophia Motolese scored two second-half goals to lead Northwestern in a 2-1 win over the Crusaders.
FIELD HOCKEY
Liberty-Pleasant Valley
The Hurricanes scored five second-half goals in a 5-0 win over Pleasant Valley.
Rayne Wright had four of Liberty’s goals, while Barbara Pervealov scored the other.
Bears goal keeper Emmas Strohl faced 12 shots and made seven saves in the loss, while Liberty keeper Kat Borda didn’t face a shot in the game.
VOLLEYBALL
Panther Valley-Lourdes
Panther Valley took a 3-0 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes Regional, 25-3, 25-8, 25-21.
Abbey Vermillion recorded seven kills, Natalie White added five kills, two aces and two blocks, while teammate Alexis Cooper had four digs and two aces.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Palmerton posted a sweep of Catasauqua in Colonial League action, 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.
Blue Mountain-Marian
Blue Mountain took down Marian 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24 for a Schuylkill League win.
Marian received strong performances from Ashlyn Klitsch with 28 assists; Macie Mazalusky with 14 digs and two aces; Tatianna Zeleniak with three aces and nine digs; Jamison Wheeler with nine kills and five digs; and Alivia Karchner with eight kills and three digs.
No. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe beat North Schuylkill in a Schuylkill League match, 25-4, 25-12, 25-22.
Leading the winners were Brandy Montemuro with five aces, eight kills, five assists and six digs. Olivia Wolfe had six kills, while Autumn Snyder added five up front. Grace Baldassano totaled 18 assists, Katie DeMarco had nine digs, and Abby McGinley had 15 digs and four aces.

Panther Vy.-Weatherly
Panther Valley defeated Weatherly 42-25. The Panthers were led by Maddison Maynard with 18 points, followed by Kylie Eidle with eight. Brianna Pugh had nine points, followed by Bethany Houser with eight for Weatherly.
7TH GRADE
Panther Vy.-Jim Thorpe
The Panthers were victorious 25-21 over Jim Thorpe. Panther Valley was led by Abby Benack with 10 points, and Natalie Vermilloin with nine. Snisky had 10 for Jim Thorpe.
