Police investigated numerous crashes on snow-covered roads in the last 24 hours. Here are some of the reportable ones:
• Both drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 3:07 p.m. on Tuesday along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, have been cited.State police at Lehighton said Sandra Sokol, 52, of Jim Thorpe, and Richard W. Szoke, 39, of Lehighton, were both southbound and approaching Jim Thorpe. Sokol lost control of her 2005 Hyundai Elantra and is began to slide. Szoke attempted to stop his 1999 Chrysler 300M before striking the Elantra but could not with the front of his vehicle striking the rear of Sokol's vehicle.No one was injured and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.Both drivers were cited for driving at an unsafe speed, troopers said.• A Schuylkill County driver escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday along Route 209 (Valley Street) in New Philadelphia.State police at Frackville said Brittany Guris, 24, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy southbound and lost control while negotiating a left hand curve. The car slid sideways across the west berm and struck a utility pole with the driver's side door. After impact the vehicle spun clockwise and continued to travel south before crossing into the northbound lane and coming to rest along the east berm in a parking lot area.Troopers said Guris was cited for the crash.• A Tamaqua man was involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday in Blythe Township.Kenneth L. Mast, 54, was northbound on Route 209, south of Middleport, around 11:40 a.m. when his 1997 Chevrolet Malibu was struck head-on by a 2002 Subaru Legacy, driven by Katelyn M. Shappell, 19, of Port Carbon.State police at Frackville said Shappell lost control of her vehicle on the snow covered road and would be cited for the crash.Both drivers were uninjured.
