The Palmerton school board made the following moves at their March 20 meeting:
Graduation, school opening dates set
The board on Tuesday approved the upcoming graduation date of June 11 at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe.
Engler said the date is firm even if there are more snow days this school year.
In a revision to the 2018-19 school calendar, he added, the first day of school will be Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day.
The later start is due to the building project going on at the junior high school.
Personnel moves approved
Personnel moves Tuesday night included a kindergarten teacher moving on at the end of the school year.
The board accepted the resignation of Tricia Wampole, kindergarten teacher at Parkside Education Center, effective June 30.
In other action, the board approved Susan Banko as a substitute cafeteria worker at $7.50 per hour, approved Joshua Rake as a substitute K-12 health and physical education teacher, and accepted the resignation of Cara Eckhart as substitute school nurse.
Other items
The board approved a first reading of policies on bullying and food services, accepted a grant from the Lehigh Valley Road Runners for $1,500 for middle school track uniforms, accepted the donation of $100 from the Towamensing Parent Teacher Organization to the high school National Honor Society Activity Club for baby-sitting services for meetings, approved a disc jockey and photo booth package with Lehigh Valley Events for the Class of 2018 prom, and approved the B-Flat Entertainment disc jockey contract for the junior high dance on Friday.
