Trucker involved in hit-and-run found

State police at Schuykill Haven reported that the trucker involved in a hit-and-run last week in Schuylkill County has been located and is facing multiple charges.

Troopers said on June 2 a tractor-trailer was coming out of a Route 895 jughandled in Deer Lake, and made an illegal right turn onto Route 61 in a construction zone. The truck struck a temporary traffic control device and a utility pole. After impact with the pole the driver backed up several times trying to free the rig and in the process damaged several newly installed traffic control signals along with several other traffic control devices in the area.Once the driver was able to free the rig he continued northbound on 61. Several of the traffic lights needed to be replaced and new ones were installed, troopers said.At the time of the incident the rig was identified as a Wegman's tractor with trailer. The investigation revealed the trailer had been subcontracted out to Leonard's Transportation of New York City, New York, and the driver was Stephen M. Hill, 60, of Townsend, Delaware. The crash and damages were not caused by any employees of Wegman's, troopers said.Troopers said numerous citations will be filed in the matter.
