Man arrested after hitting grandmother

A Tamaqua man was arrested on June 10 after he struck his grandmother, who was questioning him about his reasons for being in her safe.

Police were dispatched to 605 Brew St. at 10:02 p.m. for a disturbance. On scene, officers found George Melnick attempting to restrain Tyler Joseph Kline, 22, who appeared to be out of control. Kline was handcuffed and searched before being placed in the police cruiser.Found during the search were a Honda car key, a U.S. passport, $85 in cash, a small safe key, silver watch, lighter, cut straw and five glassine bags filled with a substance that field tested positive for heroin.Officers then spoke with family members.Tyler's grandmother, Ann Kline, with whom he's been residing for the last year, said money had been stolen from her safe the night before and she had filed a police report about the theft. This night, she found her grandson in front of the safe. When she questioned him, he "flipped out" punched her in the arm and struck her in the face. She then called her daughter and son-in-law for help. They arrived minutes before police.Kline was charged with simple assault, harassment and possession of a controlled substance.
