A Lansford man faces charges following a multi-vehicle accident in Tamaqua on Friday, July 17.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East Broad Street at 9:43 p.m. for an accident with unknown injuries. The caller said the suspect driver might be trying to drive away.On the scene, officers spoke with Mark Edward Marouchoc, 50, of 805 E. Ridge St., Lansford, whose 2001 Dodge pickup had rear-ended a parked vehicle, sending that car into another parked car. Marouchoc told the officer he had four Coors Light beers about two hours earlier and was on his way to his trailer. He failed three field sobriety tests, then was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital-Coaldale campus for blood tests.The damaged vehicles were a silver 2001 Honda Accord, owned by Jason D. Reed, and a black 2010 Ford Escape, owned by Janelle Schaeffer, both of 533 E. Broad St.While an officer was administering the field sobriety tests, another was speaking to witnesses. Several of the witnesses were yelling and cursing at Marouchoc, one worried because, he said, his child had been playing on the sidewalk next to the parked cars. This neighbor was unhappy with the police officers' actions as they didn't check to see if the child, who was crying, had been hurt.EMS personnel did check on the child, who said he was crying because all of the screaming and yelling being done by the adults and wasn't hurt at all.Charges are pending the results of the blood tests.
