A New Ringgold man was cited by Tamaqua police after an incident on Nov. 6.
Officers were dispatched to the area of the Wells Fargo Bank on West Broad Street at 10 p.m. for a reported assault. The caller said the assailant was walking east toward Center Street and provided a description of the man.A man fitting the description was stopped and identified as Jeffrey David Boyer, 51, of 218 All Kings Drive. Boyer appeared to be drunk. A pat down search found a pipe in one of Boyer's pockets.The witness who called police said he saw Boyer assault another man, choking him. When the witness tried to intervene, Boyer hit him in the face. The victim fled, yelling he needed to leave before police arrived as there's a warrant for his arrest.Boyer was placed in a holding cell. He was released at 5 a.m. on Nov. 7.He was charged with simple assault, public drunkenness, harassment, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
