A project in Kidder Township that could bring upward of 1,000 jobs to Carbon County in the next decade just got a little help from county officials.

On Thursday, the county commissioners adopted a resolution extending a Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone for a development project off Route 940 in Kidder Township that has been in the works since 2013.

G. Craig Harahus of Blue Ridge Real Estate Company of Blakeslee, said this extension is an important step for making this multiphase project a reality.

“There’s a need for jobs so this will provide good paying jobs,” he said, adding that when all is said and done, the development, located in the area of the defunct High Elevations restaurant, will bring between 600 and 1,000 jobs.

The KOEZ was supposed to expire in 2023 but delays in the permitting process pushed back the timeline until 2020-2021.

Weatherly Area School District, where the parcel is located; and Kidder Township already adopted the resolution needed to extend the KOEZ zone an additional 10 years.

The commissioners complimented Blue Ridge Real Estate for working on the project.

“I think the day will come where businesses will be lined up there,” Commissioner William O’Gurek. “This will help the school district and township.”

Harahus said commended the Kidder Township supervisors, who spearheaded the project five years ago.
