Effort man jailed for armed robbery

Pocono Mountain Regional Police report the arrest of Luis Medina, 42, of 521 Timothy Lane, Effort, for the armed robbery of Sunny's Food Market, Route 115, Tunkhannock Township, at 7:10 p.m. Dec. 11.

He is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer a firearm.Medina is currently being held in the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, in lieu of $200,000 bail, awaiting a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge R.S. Claypool.Police said the robbery took place when a man wearing a bandanna over his face entered the store carrying a long gun firearm and demanded the store employees hand over the money in the register while pointing the gun at them. The man removed $50 from a cash drawer before leaving the store.Police said employees at the store recognized the male as a customer that comes in regularly. They advised police they know him as "Lou."Detectives believed "Lou" is Medina, who they eventually took into custody and made the arrest at a residence in Effort, Chestnuthill Township.
