Police confiscate motorcycle in Tamaqua; two men face charges

Two men were cited and a motorcycle was confiscated after an incident in Tamaqua on New Year's morning.

Tamaqua police attempted to stop a yellow motorcycle at 12:30 a.m., but the driver passed the police cruiser and failed to stop. The officer was able to identify him as Craig Filer, 27, of 114 E. High St., Coaldale. A records check determined Filer does not have a license to operate a motorcycle.Police in Tamaqua and Coaldale were searching for Filer and the bike when an officer saw a yellow, mud-caked motorcycle tucked behind the outdoor bar at the Hang Loose Bar, 300 E. Broad St. The motorcycle was registered to Ryan Ventresca, 33, of 515 Willow St., Pottsville.Ventresca was located inside the bar and initially denied owning the motorcycle. When police told him they had already done a records check he admitted the bike was his, but said it hadn't been moved in hours. As the officer spoke with Ventresca, outside the bar Filer came by as a passenger in a pickup. Ventresca and Filer engaged in a conversation. Filer then got out of the truck and both men began yelling at the officers. At that point police called for a tow truck to impound the motorcycle.Filer and Ventresca entered the bar together. As officers waited for the tow truck they could hear a disturbance in the bar.Entering the establishment they saw Ventresca pushing the bar owner, who was attempting to get him to leave the premises.Officers placed Ventresca in handcuffs and transported him to the police station. He was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.Filer was cited for fleeing law enforcement, driving without a valid motorcycle license and failure to wear required protective gear.
