Rush Township Police have arrested a Lansford man in connection with several thefts from motor vehicles.
Officers were dispatched to the first block on Ben Titus Road at 4:45 a.m. on Feb. 11, after someone was observed entering parked vehicles. The suspect fled in a black Jeep Cherokee.Rush police issued an alert and Tamaqua Police were able to stop a vehicle matching that description a short time later. The suspect vehicle was being driven by John Bartenope, 38, of Lansford. Inside the jeep, in plain sight, were several items matching the descriptions of those stolen along Ben Titus Road. After acquiring a search warrant, officers found a variety of other items inside the Jeep, including several reportedly stolen from a business in Nesquehoning.Bartenope was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer on charges of theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, loitering/prowling at night, criminal trespass and conspiracy to commit theft. Bail was set at $25,000 straight cash, which Bartenope was unable to post.He was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 17.
