Lehighton state police - crashes

State police at Lehighton responded to crashes in the area, three caused by deer.

• Scott Brown, 24, of Pen Argyl, suffered minor injuries when a vehicle he was driving struck a deer at 5:43

p.m.Saturday on Route 209 in Polk Township.State policesaid he was northbound in a 2013 Nissan Altima when the deer ran onto the roadway. The vehicle struck the deer head on and continued north on Route 209, coming to rest about 40 feet from the initial impact.Police said the car sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.Two passengers with Brown, Kaitlin Noble, 21, and a 2-year-old boy, both from Pen Argyl, escaped injuries.• Two vehicles were damaged in a crash at 8:19 p.m. Nov. 2 at 1537 Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.State policesaid the crash happened when Jared A. Eickhoff, 178 W. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill, was westbound and swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a deer. His vehicle struck a Chevrolet Suburban operated by Kayin Zareb Yahya of Philadelphia.Police were assisted at the scene by the Penn Forest Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance and All Points Towing.• State policesaid a vehicle sustained moderate damages and the driver was uninjured when the car hit a deer at 1:13 a.m. Nov. 5 on Route 209 in Polk Township.Police said Margaret E. Keller, 79, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe when the deer entered her path at 986 Interchange Road. Police said the vehicle struck the deer in the southbound lane. It was towed from the scene.• Sherry L. Deschenes, 21, of Saylorsburg, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 3:35

a.m.Monday on Old Route 115 (Wilkes-Barre Road) in Ross Township.State policesaid she was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound when she was traveling at a speed greater than reasonable and failed to negotiate a left curve. The vehicle traveled off the east shoulder and struck a guide rail before spinning 90 degrees counter-clockwise and traveling west across Old Route 115. The car then struck a dirt embankment and came to rest partially in the southbound lane.Police said she was cited for the incident.
