The Tamaqua Community Art Center launched its latest art initiative called “Raw Aspirations,” with an artist meet-and-greet session. The aim of the initiative is “to help the Tamaqua community visualize and verbalize the hopes for its future,” said Leona Rega, Tamaqua Community Arts Center coordinator.
The center worked in conjunction with the Arts Barn in Schuylkill Haven to find artists to construct five sculptures all made of raw materials. The installations feature five local artists — Barry Middleton, Joanne Minnick, Deborah Powell Kramer, Todd Gladdfelter and Mark Golomb. Artist Mike Golomb demonstrates the methodology behind creating wire trees. Here, he created a 7-foot tree made of steel wire, solar lights and wind chimes. Golmb said events like Raw Aspirations serve as inspiration to area youth to pursue and appreciate the arts. NICHOLAS HARTRANFT/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
