A Coaldale woman has been charged with criminal mischief and other offenses.

Kathy Ann Carroll, 38, of 150 Second St., was also charged with criminal trespass and public drunkenness.According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:On Oct. 10, Officer Gabriel Szozda was assisting Officer Scott Cramer on a disturbance call at 150 Second St. While standing outside the house, he and Cramer heard an alarm go off down the street. Cramer saw someone running away from the American Legion building at 105 Second St. Cramer was occupied with another person, so Szozda went after the runner.He got out of his cruiser and when he shined his flashlight around the building and then on nearby cars, Carroll came out from behind one of the cars. He told her not to move, but she put her arms up in the air and approached him.Coming toward him, she was losing balance, and started to take off her jacket and threw her purse on the ground.When asked why she ran away from the front entrance, Carroll told Szozda she came from the VFW and wanted to get a couple more drinks. Szozda smelled a strong odor of alcohol, and that Carroll was losing her balance as they spoke.She was repeatedly told to calm down and stop shouting in the middle of the street. Carroll told police she did not realize the place was already closed for the day. When she opened the door, the alarm went and she panicked and ran. She stopped running because she saw police cruisers up the street.There was no damage to the building, but the communications center had to call the key holder to come out to reset the alarm.For her own safety, police advised Carroll to go home. Szozda got back into his cruiser and was about to follow Cramer back to the police station. At that point, Carroll came back out into the middle of the street and waved him down. She asked if Szozda would give her a lift to Ridge Terrace. Szozda told her again to go home, which was right across the street. Carroll again insisted Szozda give her a ride; he again declined, saying he had to assist another officer.About two or three minutes after they arrived at the police station, police got a call about someone breaking into 326 Ridge Terrace.When they arrived, Szozda saw a window screen lying outside the house and the front window had been pushed up and opened.A Daniel Bell came out through the front door and told police someone had been banging on the front door, so he decided to come down. As he came down the steps, he saw Carroll inside his house. He saw that the window screen was out and the window was opened. Szozda saw Carroll come out the front door. She started to shout that she just wanted her Visa card back. As he came toward her, she stated that she knew what she did was wrong, but that she just wanted her stuff back.According to Bell, Carroll was screaming that she wanted her money back from a Lora Maly, who lives in the house. Bell had told Carroll to leave, but she refused and sat down on the couch, demanding that Maly pay her back. Bell contacted Maly, who called police.During the investigation, Maly stated that Carroll had given her the credit card and the identification number needed for withdrawals. Carroll was taken home and informed of the charges against her.
