The Palmerton Area School Board voted to close the Hazard Elementary School located on Princeton Avenue in Palmerton.

A committee comprising Peter Blynn, William Bechdolt, James Ord and Ed Lambert recommended the school be closed and approximately 100 students in kindergarten through fourth grade be absorbed into the Franklin, Delaware and Towamensing schools.The closure was expected to save the district about $16,000 per year in repair work and maintenance costs.The school is badly in need of a new roof and the wall outside it is deteriorating.
