Summit Hill operation expanded

The search of a Summit Hill home where possibly explosive and hazardous materials have been found has expanded.

"They are doing the same things that were being done yesterday, only on a bigger scale. They brought more FBI agents from the DC area, and they've upscaled their operation," said Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Nalesnik. The home is at 416 W. Ludlow St."There are several operations going on at different locations on the property. Yesterday, they were working with one team at a time. Now, there are multiple teams working at the same time," he said.Nalesnik could not say what exactly has been found in the home. The FBI is in charge of the incident."Once they are finished with their investigation, and all the necessary steps have been taken, they will release information," he said.Nalesnik said that the items that were discovered in the home are being analyzed."They are in containers and packages that are marked, that are labeled. They have to determine whether that's actually what's in the containers. It's a slow and tedious process, and there's a ton of work that needs to be done with each individual material that's been found. It takes a long time, and that's why we're here so long," he said.Nalesnik said an impending thunderstorm has the people even busier, setting up tents and making sure all the equipment and materials from the house are protected from rain."They just put out requests for more tents and canopies so we can continue operations," he said.
