For its second year the residents of the borough of Parryville welcomed Santa Claus in the center of town.

As the sound of firetruck sirens filled the sky, children both young and old waited patiently for the big guy to dismount the tanker and take photos near the community decorated tree.

Handmade ornaments were hung upon the holiday spruce next to the borough hall while last year’s ornaments hung up clothesline style next to the building.

Nearly 30 residents attended the second annual event in hopes of seeing neighbors and catching a glimpse of the red-clad man of the hour.

“We decided to come this year because people we knew came last year and said it was great, so we wanted to get here,” Marianne Slaby said.

Slaby, along with her 4-year-old son dressed in full red-suit, snapped several photos as Joshua sat upon Santa’s lap and unwrapped a coloring book.

Residents enjoyed donated funnel cake, coffee and hot chocolate provided by the borough’s volunteer fire company.

Newly elected Mayor Kevin Greenzweig requested Franklin Township’s fire police to block off the Center Street’s one-block radius for the second year to make room for Mr. Claus.

“Last year when people got here we could see how much they enjoyed the event. They asked me if we were doing it again this year, so we did,” he said.

Greenzweig said he hopes to expand the holiday cheer and incorporate more activities for the local children.
