A Lehighton man has been arraigned on charges of carrying narcotics into the Carbon County Correctional Facility.
Jason Dwayne Hettler, 39, of Lehighton was charged with one count of possessing a controlled substance and one count prohibited acts.Hettler was brought to the Carbon County Sheriff's department for a bench warrant. Hettler had the pill and a half in his pocket and claimed it was ibuprofen.Bail for Hettler was set at $500 with his preliminary hearing set for 2 p.m. June 24 at the Lansford location.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Chief Sean T. Smith of the Nesquehoning Police Department, on Sept. 17, corrections officer Marcel Barbeau found the pills while searching Hettler.Barbeau told Smith that Hettler said to just throw the pills away since they were just ibuprofen.Barbeau then went online to CVS Pharmacies clinical pharmacology pill identifier and identified the pill and a half as Vicodin, composed of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, which is a Schedule III narcotic.Smith met with Hettler and advised him of his Miranda Rights. Hettler waived these rights in writing and agreed to speak to Smith.Hettler said he was unaware that the pills seized by Barbeau were Vicodin. Hettler also admitted that he knew he had the pills and he knew he was not allowed to bring anything into the prison because it falls under contraband.Hettler said knew this because he as been in the Carbon County Correctional Facility several times.
