Federal, state and local law enforcement authorities remain searching today off Fairview Road for a McAdoo man wanted for threatening President Donald Trump and others in social media posts last month.
Video cameras caught “someone who strongly resembles” Shawn Christy, 27, breaking into the Scranton School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children in South Abington Twp. and stealing food, said Robert Clark, supervisor of the U.S. Marshals’ fugitive task force.
They consider Christy armed and dangerous because of the threats, but do not know for sure that he has a weapon, Clark said.
FBI and Secret Service agents, U.S. marshals and state and local police are part of the search. Agents carrying assault weapons could be seen.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Monday a federal grand jury indicted Christy on July 10 for threatening Trump and police in Facebook posts between June 3 through 12.
The indictment alleges Christy also threatened to injure another person by posting “Your (sic) a dead man ...Lets play.”
Federal marshals and FBI and Secret Service agents searched around the No. 8 reservoir owned by Kline Twp. Municipal Authority in Schuylkill County, about 15 miles south of Hazleton, and vacant properties elsewhere in Kline Twp. and McAdoo for several days. The authority closed its 400-acre property to the public in late June because agents believed Christy was camped out there. The authority lifted the ban Monday.
Agents first went looking for Christy at the home he shared with his parents at Rear South Harrison Street in McAdoo on June 20.
Christy was initially wanted for making the threats, along with a probation violation and failure to appear in court. As the search for him intensified, the list of charges against him grew.
Federal agents obtained an arrest warrant in June when Christy allegedly made threats against Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli and Trump on Facebook.
“Keep it up Morganelli, I promise I’ll put a bullet in your head as soon as I put one in the head of President Donald J. Trump,” Christy wrote, according to federal investigators.
Christy also threatened to use “full lethal force on any law enforcement officer” who tries to detain him.
State police at Hazleton filed charges against him for a July 7 break-in at his former employer, Hazleton Oil and Environmental in Audenried, a village in Banks Twp. just outside of McAdoo. A video camera caught him entering a company building. A black Ford F-350 truck reported stolen by the business was found near the Canadian border later.
Christy stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs approximately 160 pounds, has a light complexion, short dark blond hair and a beard. He speaks with a noticeable lisp and claims to be a survivalist.
Clark said all leads are being investigated as the search for Christy continues.
Federal authorities are offering up to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. All information will be considered confidential. Anyone with information should call the marshals at 877-926-8332.
