The 38th Annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Block Party will be held Friday through Sunday.
It starts at 4 p.m. each day at the fire company, located at 2440 Fairyland Road.
Friday features a seafood dinner from 4-7 p.m., and music by Nite Flyte from 6:30-10:30 p.m.
It continues Saturday with music by Steel & Lace from 6:30-10:30 p.m., a garden tractor pull from 7-10 p.m., and a fireworks spectacular at 10:30 p.m.
Sunday features a Kids Challenge Obstacle Course at 3:30 p.m., and music by the James Hummel Band from 6:15-9:15 p.m., with all drawings held at 9:30 p.m.
The event also will include a big Chinese auction, book fair, cartoon portraits, a large variety of food, bingo, games, giveaways, a bounce house, children’s fire engine rides, and various rides and games.
New this year are corn on the cob, baked potatoes, Sno Cones, a candy wheel, a sweet shack with candy apples, popcorn, and cotton candy, a mechanical bull, and hot air balloon rides.
Chris Lilly, vice president of the auxiliary, said a key to the event’s success has been the strong backing of the community over the years.
“We’ve had great community support, and that means a lot,” Lilly said. “We have a lot of great volunteers who year after year show up, some who have been with since the beginning, some of which are new. It’s a great mix, and everybody is learning.”
Lilly said the bands are a big draw, as are the filling, and seafood.
She said the firefighters, auxiliary and fire police are always accepting volunteers.
