N'western offense powered by Cam
Northwestern head football coach Josh Snyder and his senior star receiver Cam Richardson both agree that the comradery of their undefeated Tiger team is second to none.
The Tigers are not only familiar with each other on the football field, but they are also becoming quite familiar with the Times News Player of the Week award.Richardson and Harry Hall, two of the three cover boys of the 2014 Times News Football Tab, have now won Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks."All of us are like brothers," explained Richardson. "We've been together forever. Our entire backfield hangs out all of the time. There's something about us, we just know exactly what we're capable of."Two weeks ago it was Hall who ran for 237 yards against Saucon Valley which propelled the Tigers to a 5-0 record.Last week it was Richardson who stole the show during a 47-15 rout of Salisbury. The senior stud compiled five catches for 122 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried two times for 61 yards, one a 57-yard score, which helped keep Northwestern undefeated in 2014."We just wanted to take what the defense gave us," Snyder said. "If guys are in the box and we like the matchups outside, our playaction game will work. Cam had some nice matchups that we felt we could exploit and we obviously did that as he exploded for five touchdowns."Richardson was glad that coach Snyder tried to work him the ball quite a few times during last week's win."He called my number a few times and I was able to capatalize. It's been awesome this year. We're running a lot of the same plays since my sophomore year and we are close to perfecting them. We all enjoy the hurry up offense and the hand signals. It's a lot of fun.""We're one game into the second half of the season sitting at 6-0," said Snyder. "We felt we could be here if we got off to a good start and kept improving. From week to week we're continuing to gel as a team. These 44 guys are coming together and are doing all of the right things."The accolades are piling up for Richardson in 2014. Aside from the Player of the Week honor, Richardson became the all-time Northwestern leader in touchdown receptions on Sept. 13 against Pen Argyl. The Tiger receiver currently owns a stat line of 23 catches for 423 yards and nine touchdowns; and 24 rushes for 212 yards and five more scores.Snyder explained that everyone on the team truly plays for one another and that the kids are thrilled for each other when they achieve individual accomplishments."This team is very unselfish and that's what I really like about them. They've had high goals throughout their entire careers. They've taken their lumps early on and have really bought into the program over the past few years."The positive play is contagious on this team. These 44 guys are making it an enjoyable season and a great team setting."Snyder and Richardson agreed that the Tiger offense wouldn't be rolling without stellar play from senior quarterback Frank Dangello.Dangello has completed over 50 percent of his passes in which 23 of his 39 completions have gone to his favorite target Richardson."Last week's game is something I'm definitely going to remember for a long time, but I have to get it out of my head for now and come to play this week for my team."
