W. Penn official calls for increased safety at municipal building

A West Penn Township official has called for increased safety at the township’s municipal building.

Supervisor Ted Bogosh suggested at Monday’s board of supervisors meeting

Bogosh said he would like to put a security window in the door of the township office.

He said we live in a society where people are becoming “hostile,” and as a result, he has concerns about the security of the township’s office staff.

Bogosh said the cost of the bullet-resistant window would be about $300.

“It would not stop citizens from doing business,” Bogosh said.

While the municipal building has not encountered any such problems, Bogosh said he would like to see the window put up before any such situation could occur.

“I’d just like to make it difficult for (potential hostile people),” Bogosh said.

Though he’s all for safety, board Chairman Tony Prudenti said he believes doing so would only serve to alienate the township from residents who would otherwise visit the office.

Supervisor Tim Houser also expressed reservations with the recommendation.

“Personally, I think we’d be detaching ourselves from people,” Houser said.

“I have a mixed opinion on that.”

Supervisors agreed to table discussion on the matter.
