A bear that was struck by a vehicle at 9:01 p.m. Jan. 30 on Kunkletown Road in Ross Township had to be euthanized, according to state police at Lehighton.
Police said the incident happened when a 48-year-old man from Saylorsburg was driving west. Police said the vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions when the bear entered its lane of travel. The vehicle struck the bear in the westbound lane, its initial impact being the right side bumper. Police said the vehicle came to rest facing west in the westbound lane of travel.
The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene. Police said the driver was not injured.
