The Sovereign Majestic Awards were presented on May 20 for high school excellence in the performing arts.
Marian Catholic High School's " Jesus Christ Superstar" was nominated for 15 awards which included acting, singing, dancing, directing, design and overall production."Superstar" won the award for 'Best Graphic Design", which was awarded to Dylan Rush, who designed the logo for the t-shirts, posters and program.A very special honor was also awarded to Mike Mulligan, who played the role of "Caiaphas", for his ability to keep his deep vocal range consistent throughout the production. The production was under the direction of Ms. Judy Martini.The Sovereign Majestic Theater is a 224-seat venue for the presentation of professional cultural programs for children and adults. The Sovereign Majestic Theater is located in the heart of the City of Pottsville, the Schuylkill County seat of government, and is a contributing structure within the Pottsville Downtown Historic District, as listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.The Sovereign Majestic Theater is sponsors for many kinds of performances including plays, children's theater, concerts, and movies.The programming developed by SMTA will provide the local community affordable musical and artistic entertainment. The Sovereign Majestic Theater Association, a nonprofit, volunteer organization, is committed to preserving and operating a quality performing arts facility in both a fiscally and socially responsible manner to further develop the civic, cultural, and artistic needs of the Schuylkill County regional community.
