Carbon County officials may have approved an extension for the pedestrian bridge project in Jim Thorpe last week, but the bridge dedication date is now set in stone.
Elissa Garofalo, executive director for the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corrido, said that the project team for the bridge met and unanimously agreed that June 11 will be the dedication date for the new span over the Lehigh River. The reason for the extension is for minimal cleanup and finalization of paperwork, she said Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard told her.
“While there may be some equipment lingering, the bridge will be ready for the June 11 dedication event,” she said.
The new pedestrian bridge, a 250-foot, $3.2 million steel truss span, will connect another portion of the D & L Nature Trail.
