Carbon County court — DUI

Six defendants entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence or related charges on Thursday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas from the following:

Two incidents

John A. Collotty

, 38, of Lehighton, was arrested on the DUI count on June 17 by Lehighton police. A test showed 0.14 BAC.

Police stopped Collotty along Ninth Street because his vehicle matched one involved in an incident about two hours earlier to the rear of the Sunoco station along Route 443. In that incident an intoxicated Collotty got involved in a dispute with others at that location and grabbed a man’s iPhone and smashed it on the ground. He then fled the scene.

Collotty is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.

Nanovic accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing because Collotty must obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation on the DUI charge.

Other pleas

Robert John Fornataro

, 56, of Drums, Luzerne County, was arrested on Jan. 27 along Overlook Drive in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.

A first offense for sentencing purposes, Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered him to pay a fine of $300.

Wade Anthony Matika

, 25, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of driving under suspension — DUI related and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on March 1 by Nesquehoning police along Route 93 after being stopped for speeding, 72 mph in a 55 zone.

Facing jail for the suspension count, sentencing was deferred so Matika can apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.

Kenneth Allen Wanamaker Jr.

, 40, of Walnutport, was arrested on Nov. 8, 2013, along Route 248 at Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was originally charged with 10 counts. He also pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sentencing was deferred so Wanamaker can get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison in Allentown on other charges.

Neil Dorshimer

, 34, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 12, along Route 443 in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was originally charged with eight counts.

Facing a jail term, sentencing was deferred so he could apply for placement in the IPP.

Drop DUI

Michael Lee Fronheiser

, 24, of Walnutport, pleaded to two summary motor vehicle code violations, careless driving and speeding (70 mph in a 55 zone).

He was arrested on May 2, 2016, along Route 248 by Palmerton police.

He was originally charged with DUI of a controlled substance but that count was dropped.

Nanovic imposed fines totaling $80 and costs on the two counts.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
