Palmerton news for Sept. 5, 2019

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church

Rally Day for Sunday school at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville), will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 8. There will be cake, ice cream and a movie. Parents are asked to call the church office with the names of your children and grade level. Call 610-681-5200.

Worship service returns to 10:15 a.m. and will include installation of Sunday school teachers.

Veteran banner photos

American Legion Post 269 of Palmerton will have a tent at the Palmerton Community Festival. Pictures that were sent in for the Hometown Hero Banners will be available at the veterans tent. You are welcome to pick them up.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. All are invited for a free meal and fellowship.

Council meetings

The regular meetings of the Palmerton Borough Council during September will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 and 26. Meetings are held in Borough Hall Council Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

Miller-Keystone Blood Drive

The next Miller-Keystone community blood drive in Palmerton will be on Sept. 9 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and many recipients of transfusions are cancer patients, including children. In observance of this as well as Sept. 9 being National Teddy Bear Day, blood drive coordinator Alice Wanamaker has promised to donate a teddy bear to a local pediatric oncology center for every donor who comes to the drive on Sept. 9 in Palmerton.

Teen Open Mic Night

Teen Open Mic Night, hosted be the Palmerton Library Teens and the Palmerton Library will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12. For ages 13 to 18. Poetry, music, dance, comedy, lip sync, etc. PG-13 and under content. This event is specifically for teens — no younger siblings please. Adult participation is limited to the library staff. Parents are welcome at drop off and pick up times.

Support Group

A monthly support group will meet at Jerusalem United Church of Christ 545, Church Drive. in Trachsville at 1 p.m. Sept. 11. Directed by a professional counselor, Susan Featro, this group is for people experiencing grief due to trauma, loss or death. It is an effort to assist people in the surrounding community to heal and find peace.
