The Tamaqua Has Heart project has come to its completion and people are wondering what will happen to the fiberglass structures.

Art center Director Leona Rega provided a list of the hearts, the artists and sponsors, and where the hearts will be located.

The majority of the hearts will stay local. Their new locations include:

Heart 1: handprints of thousands of community members, sponsored by Tamaqua Station Restaurant, John & Melanie Ross family, in loving memory of Matthew “Tuna” Osenbach, installation near the Tamaqua Train Station;

Heart 2: designed by Tamaqua Area High School Photo 1 Class, sponsored by Shafer’s Pharmacy, Lee and Jaque Shafer, installation at the Tamaqua Public Library;

Heart 3: designed by Karen Clark, Kimberly Burkette, Lehigh Carbon Community College students; sponsored by Lehigh Carbon Community College Morgan Center; installation at LCCC;

Heart 4: designed by Kim East, sponsored by Times News, LLC, installed at Arts Barn in Orwigsburg, voted “Most Work”;

Heart 5: designed by Paul Corinchock, sponsored by Liz Corinchock, Nicole Lipinsky, Marria O’Malley Walsh, Michael J. O’Malley III, Carol and Alex Tallick, Christine Verdier, Joann and Jean Paslawsky, David and Judy Johns, Steph and Nathan Johns, Karen and Jim Reed, temporarily on display in Scheid’s window, voted “Most Artistic”;

Heart 6: designed by Kyle Whitley, sponsored Sank Griffiths of E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., to be placed at the Tamaqua Elementary School in memory of Flossie Hoppes;

Heart 7: designed by Tamaqua Area Middle School students and teacher Kim Woodward, sponsored by Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1978, to be placed near the Tamaqua Area Senior and Middle Schools, voted “Makes You Feel Good”;

Heart 8: designed by Lori Remmel, sponsored by Mahanoy City Barbershop Chapter, temporarily on display at Tink’s Antiques;

Heart 9: designed by Suzanne Dalton, sponsored by St. Luke’s Miners Campus, to be made mobile and displayed at various St. Luke’s facilities;

Heart 10: designed by Joe Evanousky, sponsored by Cyan Sky Copier Technologies, donated to the Tamaqua Art Center, voted “All Around Favorite”;

Heart 11: designed by Jon McCoy, sponsored by Flos Fegley and Family in memory of William H. Fegley, donated to the Tamaqua Salvation Army, voted “Most Original Design”;

Heart 12: designed by Susan E. Sidoriak, sponsored by Tamaqua Area Class of 1992, to be installed at Tamaqua ABC High Rise;

Heart 13: designed by Kevin Smith, sponsored Jay Hollenbach Plumbing and Heating, the Gelatko Family, James, Robert & Joanne, Mauch Chunk Trust Company, Tamaqua/Hometown office, Lech Transportation, Inc., placed in a private garden.

As for what’s next, Rega says, “As we look to the future we purposely intend to involve more residents and continue to the momentum of positive interactions through a new project called Raw Aspirations.

“This time around, we will work side by side with our artist friends of the Arts Barn in Orwigsburg. Tamaqua can expect to once again experience something like they have never seen on our streets before.”
