A look back: Feb. 1, 2008

Carbon County officials have named a new Veterans Affairs director.

During Thursday’s county commissioners’ meeting, the board announced Henry M. Desrosiers, a resident of Jim Thorpe, will begin as director on Feb. 4. He will fill the vacancy that became available late last year after director Charles McHugh Jr. passed away.

The 54-year-old Desrosiers has lived in Jim Thorpe for the past five years with his wife, Cathy, who is a native of Jim Thorpe. Before that, he served as a police officer for 24 years in Naugatuck, Connecticut, retiring in 2003. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served from 1971-75, including having been stationed in Okinawa, Japan; the Philippines; Saigon, South Vietnam; and stateside.
