The Jim Thorpe Area School Board announced last night state approval has been given to transport pupils who live in the downtown area of Jim Thorpe to the Asa Packer elementary and junior high school by bus.
The board announced transportation will be provided free for children living on Broadway, Susquehanna, High and Race streets. The more than 100 pupils involved will be transported in two buses which will travel a route on West Broadway and up the Liberties section of the community to the two schools.
The action comes after the Jim Thorpe PTA filed complaints stating the children were required to walk in the streets to school because there were no sidewalks in the area.
