250th anthracite anniversary draws to a close

Some 250 guests turned out Saturday for a wrap-up celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Anthracite held at the Tamaqua Train Station Restaurant, Stoker’s Brewing Company, Tamaqua, and the No. 9 Mine and Museum, Lansford. Provided through the generosity of Tamaqua native Scott Herring, board chairman, the daylong gala included highlights and remembrances of a year of activities and commemorative events held throughout the hard coal region. Here, guest David Evely of Schuylkill Haven holds domesticated skunk Rosie at the Tamaqua depot. The unusual pet was celebrating her fifth birthday. DONALD R. SERFASS/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
