Marian's Berlitz sets two pool records at Tamaqua
Marian's Dan Berlitz set two new pool records at Tamaqua during scholastic action on Thursday.
The freshman broke the old marks in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.SWIMMINGPottsville-TamaquaPottsville swept Tamaqua in Schuylkill League swimming, but it was Marian's Dan Berlitz that stole the show in the Raiders' home pool.Berlitz, a freshman, broke two Tamaqua pool records while swimming exhibition at the meet. Swimmers from Halifax, Palmerton and Weatherly also participated.The Marian student set new standards in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. In the IM, his 1:58.93 broke the old mark of 2:01.90, which was held by Milersburg's Cole Davis. His 100 breast time of 1:01.59 bettered the previous record of 1:03.57, which was owned by Kyle Shoemaker of Saucon Valley.In the meet, the Tamaqua girls dropped a 110-68 decision despite two firsts from Rebecca Kanaskie (200 IM, 100 breast). Other firsts came from Abby Brickler (50 free), Lexi Kerstetter (100 back) and Emma Rago (diving).The Raider boys fell by a 117-55 score.
