An American Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Tamaqua on Nov. 17, collecting 56 units of the "gift of life." Four first time donors heeded the call Joseph Zaprazny, Judy Brennan, Elizabeth Ostrowski and John Taylor.The Salvation Army gymnasium was converted into a blood center through the efforts of Randy Gormley, Jack Quinn, Bob Zeplin, Peter Shlanta and Jack Rarick. Additional volunteers included Jean Stephens, Edie Hoffman, Ardis Gerhard, Dolores Martin, Dolly Shirey and Bob Shirey.Multi-gallon pins were awarded to: Stephanie Yaremko, four gallons; Mark Kosica, six gallons.The visit was sponsored by Bittner's General Store, Tamaqua.Snow rulesWith the possibility of winter weather lurking every week, Tamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning sidewalks.Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least three feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and/or ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm. Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street or who fails to maintain a snow free pathway.In addition, individuals who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must REMOVE any piles of snow they create. Anyone piling snow in the street/parking areas could be cited. Residents are also to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains.Further information is available by calling (570) 668-3444 or (570) 668-0300.South Ward neighborsThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet next Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Morgan Center of Lehigh Carbon Community College on High Street.The change in meeting place is due to construction activities at the South Ward Playground, which will be undergoing a total renovation.The public is welcome to attend and learn more about the organization and its activities.Primitive MethodistThe Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a children's sermon. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.First Steps, a support group for mothers of young children, meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 6-8 p.m., at the church.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. A children's service will be included.
