The owner of a business in Palmerton that was burglarized has taken to Facebook to share details of the incident.

Monica Newhard, co-owner of This N That Finds U, 380 Delaware Ave., posted that the incident occurred earlier this week.

“Unfortunately my heart is broken, sometime this week we were broken into and robbed,” Newhard said in her post. “This is a town I grew up in and have been proud to be part of. My thoughts on that have changed.

I am not rich by any means, and to have someone steal from us when I have worked so very hard for every dollar we earn just kills me.”

Newhard said when she went to the store Thursday morning, a window was smashed.

She said she opened the door, checked the cash register, and saw it was empty.

Newhard estimated upward of $600 in cash was stolen.

“I do have the winery in the back. He didn’t take any wine,” she said.

Newhard said July will mark a year that the business has been open in the borough.

“We have vendors, vintage items,” she said. “Back in the store, we have a winery.”

Newhard said of the store, which was closed Thursday but reopened Friday, that she will consider her options.

“At this point, we will remain open here,” she said. “We’ll evaluate; this doesn’t make me feel very good.”

Contacted Friday afternoon, borough police Chief Randy Smith said the matter remains under investigation.
